Boat transport in the UK

Vehicle you need

A low-loader carries larger craft with a low deck height for stability and bridge clearance; smaller boats may go on a flatbed.

Boat transport by road depends on the size of the hull. Smaller craft can be carried on a flatbed or beaver-tail, while larger yachts and cruisers need a low-loader for a low centre of gravity and legal height.

Beam (width) matters as much as length — anything over 2.9m wide may need movement orders and an escort. A specialist operator will handle the abnormal-load paperwork.

Have the cradle or supports ready, and confirm loading arrangements at both the launch and destination.
